MindTouch Launches Upgrades to Open Source Wiki
Mindtouch has just released a pretty major upgrade to its Deki Wiki, which we first mentioned here. The free, open source wiki and application platform now has the ability to deploy enterprise-class custom applications and mashups with the new DekiScript. This makes it easier to extend the platform for more environments (just about any environment, in fact) with the addition of a built-in scripting engine. The benefit of this is that it removes the need for you to use a separate programming environment for the addition of widgets, external services, or JavaScript libraries to Deki Wiki. You can develop extensions entirely in Deki Wiki as if they were a part of its platform. So the DekiScript is intended to make it easier for developers to create mashups as well as simplifying the customization of interactive applications. To further simplify this process, Deki Wiki also has Dapper integration, with the ability to create “Dapps” that query the Internet as a large database directly from within the wiki. This makes it easier to create mashups from Web content.
