Deki Wiki is primarily used behind the firewall in an enterprise setting. But there are tens of thousands of Deki Wikis being used as social media sites. If you are using Deki Wiki as a social media site then here are some ways you can monetize your property:

1) The easiest way to monetize your Deki Wiki instance is to put Adsense ads on it. We have a tutorial on setting up ads like Adsense in Deki Wiki using the custom html areas that are included in our template Fiesta.

2) If you want to take the ad serving up a notch and have your own ad server to integrate into the custom html areas then you can use commercial services like Double Click or you can use an open source service like OpenX(formerly Open Ads). I’d recommend OpenX as it allows you to setup your own ad network and you can recruit your own advertisers that are relevant to your content.

3) The next way to monetize your Deki Wiki instance is to put a tip jar or donate button on your site. Since your site has a lot of useful information on it and other people can add their two cents to it too, then you might as well put a donation button up so that you can continue to build a content rich wiki. There are a couple of ways you can implement this: First way is to use a PayPal donate button and place it on your website. We have instructions on inserting a PayPal donate button. The other way is to use a Tip Jar service that allows other people to send you tips on a wiki well done. Some sample Tip Jar services are: Tip Joy and TipIt.

4) Another way to monetize, but for the benefits of others, is to use donation services for charities and place them on your wiki. There are a lot of Charities out there that have banners you can put on your site to help increase awareness and to accept donations for the charity. A good example of this is Kiva, a micro financing company focused on giving loans to entrepreneurs in developing worlds to help grow or start their business which in turn helps build the economy around them. There are a lot of other charities out there that have banners or widgets that you can put on your wiki so definitely search around for a charity you want to support.


5) The final way I’m going to cover on how to monetize your wiki is to sell stuff on it. Deki Wiki is a great platform for your store. It allows you to load up images of your products easily and add rich content about the products like videos, slideshows, and music.
