Over the weekend, Wik.is, our (free!) hosted Deki service was upgraded from Itasca (1.9.0b) to the Jay Cooke release (8.05.2). Although our release notes for Jay Cooke are very comprehensive, they can be a bit dense since they’re geared for developers. Let me break down the new features available to you on Wik.is:

The new file uploader allows you to track your files upload progress, as well as allowing for multi-select uploads (no more clicking the “Attach” button 5 times to attach 5 files!). Furthermore, you can now attach files while *in* edit mode! And speaking of editing, this release adds support for the universal edit button. We’ve added a banning feature in your control panel - take away the privileges of those digital hooligans who are causing your community troubles! All search results are now syndicated under the OpenSearch format, which is an open sharing format of search results. Our search also now features search result previews, which will also show a preview of the body when you search (rather than simply showing you the title). You can also now change the pages’ title in the editor without moving the page’s location in Deki - of course, you can always move the page by using our “Move page” feature We’ve expanded out the page restore feature, so un-deleting a set of pages is no longer a chore. We’ve also added three new themes for Fiesta: Pro, Maroon Flash, and MindTouch. You should definitely check them out - Fiesta Pro is especially nice.

On top of these new feature, we’ve also significantly improved the performance of Deki. If you’re really interested in the details, check out our notes on the performance optimizations… but if you’re not, just marvel at how snappy your account feels

But that’s not it. The most exciting features (available to you now!) are available through DekiScript. DekiScript is an expression language for creating dynamic content in wiki pages. With DekiScript you can embed search results, other wiki pages, invoke extensions, or generate reports. This really opens a whole world of functionality to your Wik.is account that you will not find on any other hosted wiki site.
