Here at MindTouch, we’re always striving to simplify the installation and maintenance experience of our product – in fact, Mike recently highlighted the joy from one of many customers who appreciates the low maintenance nature of MindTouch.
As a company that has a track record of building an incredibly robust product across Windows and Linux platforms, our users have always had a wealth of deployment package options: source, .rpm, .deb, Windows MSI, virtual images, and even Amazon EC2 AMI images! When we look at deployment options, we’ve tried to stay ahead of the curve: we were one of the first in our product class to offer a virtual image – when Amazon EC2 launched, we also offered an AMI to cloud-enable MindTouch.
While tech-savvy IT administrators have loved the flexibility and ease of our deployment options, the non-IT users have suffered. We know that the experience for installing and evaluating MindTouch locally on Windows has been unnecessarily complex.
Well, this changes today.
We’re incredibly excited to show you a beta preview of the latest deployment mechanism (done with the help of our friends at BitRock): the MindTouch Easy Installer for Windows. This is a single 90 megabyte package which contains everything out of the box to get you up and running on your laptop in under 10 minutes on MindTouch Core, MindTouch Platform v10 or MindTouch TCS.
We need your help – please download this package, install it, and let us know if you run into any issues pertaining to installation/uninstall/reinstallation scenarios that block the installation of MindTouch. We’re really interested in seeing how it interoperates with different Windows versions, as well as virus scanners and other applications that run in the background. We are undergoing a rigorous QA process internally, but the best tests are real-life scenarios.
As a warning: do not deploy this for a production system yet. We will be releasing a production-ready version of this for workgroups after we have finalized the QA components.
