As customers have been successful in developing their own micro-apps on top of the MindTouch platform, this performance boost not only improves the speed of native applications, but integrates a new level of speed in customer and partner applications.

“MindTouch’s new feature set will be a welcome addition to maintaining our online presence”, said Miguel de Icaza, Vice President, Developer Platform at Novell. “We’re very pleased with MindTouch as a platform for all of our new content sites, particularly as we continue to see exponential data increases.”

Leading open source collaboration platform and leading commercial open source CRM provider combine to enable collaborative CRM for organizations of all sizes.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. APRIL 14, 2010 — MindTouch, the industry’s leading open source alternative to Microsoft SharePoint, , today announced that it has integrated with SugarCRM, the world’s leading provider of commercial open source customer relationship management (CRM) software. By bringing these two powerful software platforms together, organizations of all sizes can create dynamic and innovative collaborations across their businesses, specific to improved customer and service relationships. MindTouch made the announcement today at SugarCon, SugarCRM’s annual user and partner conference. MindTouch also announced its partnership with Levementum, the leading SugarCRM reseller.

“The power of MindTouch and SugarCRM increases in strength when the two are seamlessly working together through this new integration,” said Aaron Fulkerson, CEO, MindTouch. “Our work in forming a relationship with Levementum furthers our effectiveness in distributing this extremely powerful technology for collaborating around and building upon customer relationships.”

The MindTouch and SugarCRM joint solution enables sales teams to collaborate on the sales process by creating team sites for sales and/or services engagements. Given that the average five or six-figure sales transaction can encompass hundreds of emails, phone calls and notes, all with very specific information, the advantages of having an actionable base of interconnected information gives these teams more clout toward sealing the deal, identifying opportunities for upselling, and adding value in many additional ways. Services account teams, managing multiple revisions of service agreements and statements of work, are further assisted by this powerful integration as it helps them identify opportunities, track customer conversations and build upon account relationships to add additional streams of revenue.

“The combination of MindTouch and Sugar allows us to cater to the most demanding collaborative sales, marketing and support organizations,” said Clint Oram, co-founder and vice president of products at SugarCRM. “These two platforms enable organizations to quickly and easily share all the critical data, documents and internal expertise needed to operate at peak levels.”

Leading Open Source Collaborative Solution Now Available with the Leading Open Source CRM Solution, SugarCRM, and Delivered by the Leading Open Source Systems Integrator, Levementum

SAN DIEGO, April 13, 2010 — MindTouch, the industry’s leading open source alternative to Microsoft SharePoint, today announced its partnership with Levementum, the industry leading open source systems integration firm, enabling sales collaboration solutions that redefine collaborative CRM, through MindTouch’s availability as an integration with SugarCRM. MindTouch announces this collaboration during the week of SugarCon 2010 in San Francisco, where Aaron Fulkerson, MindTouch CEO, will be speaking on Tuesday, April 13, 11:45-12:30 in a session entitled, “Collaborative CRM Is the Center of the Enterprise 2.0 Universe.”

This new integration with SugarCRM and delivered by Levementum, allows teams to create — automatically and directly from the SugarCRM opportunity — new sales opportunity collaboration pages; create configurable templates for sales opportunities; develop standardized materials for key sales deliverables such as contracts and memorandums; and maintain the height of version control. The integration further provides automatic access to internal team members, partners, and customers. As such, SugarCRM, MindTouch and Levementum are allowing sales team easier paths to sealing deals, better forecasting of business growth, and an improved view into the opportunities that will most benefit their overall business.

“MindTouch has the smartest available collaboration platform for integration with SugarCRM — where the customer’s needs and requirements can be collected, stored and translated into specifications defining the sale and where all key players can be brought together around the negotiation leading to sale,” said Geoffrey Mobisson, Managing Director of Technology and Partnerships. “There’s also no replacement for the standardization of contractual documents that comes with use of a system as robust as MindTouch.”

“The art of sales is a collaborative process involving sales, sales operations, the customer and often third parties, with as much as 75 percent of sales process cycle time spent on collaborative activities,” said Aaron Fulkerson, CEO, MindTouch. “We make that a more smooth and predictable process with the SugarCRM integration, providing standardization of sales deliverables where such benefit has been largely lacking. Levementum has been invaluable in bringing this new offering to fruition.”

MindTouch is the industry’s leading provider of enterprise collaboration solutions in a market that continues to grow rapidly as more companies are operating under “lite” IT budgets for the foreseeable future. Enterprise spending on Web 2.0 technologies is predicted by Forrester to grow strongly over the next five years, reaching $4.6 billion globally by 2013.

MindTouch integrates collaboration platform with Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner line to help teams upload, collaborate, edit and publish documents via the web

MACWORLD, SAN FRANCISCO, February 11, 2010 — MindTouch, the industry’s leading open source alternative to Microsoft SharePoint, today announced that it has partnered with Fujitsu to integrate its collaboration platform with Fujitsu’s ScanSnap family of scanners. This integration delivers a customer-ready solution for the upload, storage and sharing of electronic data sources into business-ready, web-based documents.

Until today, scanning a document typically meant it was sent to a corporate file, destined to live out its life as a static image. MindTouch and Fujitsu have removed one of the biggest adoption barriers to scanning: they enable scanned documents to be edited, shared and actionable throughout the enterprise.

Using MindTouch with ScanSnap is fast and easy. The user inserts the document into the scanner and selects “scan to email.” The user then sends an email to his or her MindTouch email address. From there, the scanned information can be moved to the proper location (i.e. team site, project page, etc.) and be available for search.

“Using MindTouch with ScanSnap allows multiple parties to edit uploaded documents while retaining a complete version history – all within a MindTouch page – and maintains complete IT governance and security over their critical documents, without the environment and time-consuming drawbacks of making copies and sending faxes,” said Mike Puterbaugh, Vice President of Marketing, MindTouch. “Our partnership with Fujitsu is another example of how enterprise collaboration tools are being integrated into the mainstream business market, at the right price and with great success.”

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 is available now for $295 (U.S. list) through Fujitsu authorized resellers, mail order catalogs and the Fujitsu website located at http://www.buyfcpa.com. There is no installation required, creating immediate value and remarkable ease of use.

“Our new ScanSnap S1300 portable scanner using MindTouch’s collaboration technology offers more scanning functionality and platform flexibility for teams that work together across the web,” said Michael Sidejas, product marketing manager, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “It was a simple choice to partner with MindTouch on this initiative, given the company’s collaboration leadership.”

Download the Data Sheet .pdf

MindTouch and Fujitsu will showcase the ScanSnap S1300 at Macworld 2010 in San Francisco at Moscone Center on February 11-13. Booth number is 853.

But survey respondents believe they need to be…

Recently, MindTouch sponsored a survey conducted by TechTarget to learn more about best in class Intranets in the SMB space and the Global 3000. We expected most Intranets not to be Enterprise 2.0 enabled, but we wanted to learn first hand the different varieties of Intranets and if they were providing value.

Interesting note: 87% of the respondents had an Intranet while 13% did not.

Who took the Survey?

TechTarget interviewed over 200 companies.  Twenty-three percent of them were over $1 billion in revenue while forty-two percent were between $1m and $50m.  A good mix of respondents.

  • Delivering quality, up to date documentation is one of the biggest challenges of every company. MindTouch decreases the challenge with safe crowd sourcing and the ability to break down support and documentation language barriers.
  • Lower the cost and improve the quality of documentation and customer support while creating an engaged community of users, customers and partners.

SAN DIEGO, September 1, 2009 — MindTouch, developer of one of the top open source projects in the world, today announced the immediate availability of the MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base, the first packaged solution of its kind. Designed to enable safe crowd sourcing, the turnkey solution allows companies to safely open their product and company documentation to contributions from users, customers and partners while eliminating the risk of chaos or spam infesting their support operations. MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base includes editorial controls that allow no-friction end-user contributions while still making it easy for editors to accept and reject contributions. Sophisticated multilingual capabilities, word blacklist, collaborative video editing and user or IP blocking and banning are just a few of the innovative capabilities that make the MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base a must have for every company with customers and partners.

The solution is the second of several collaborative network solutions to be released by MindTouch [For more, see MindTouch CEO Aaron Fulkerson’s groundbreaking post on collaborative networks here.]. The MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base follows the June launch of the MindTouch Collaborative Intranet, which tackled the failure of current corporate portals and enterprise social networks to deliver value to business users. MindTouch solutions are built on the company’s popular MindTouch 2009 open source collaboration platform.

The MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base empowers customers and partners to update and contribute information to a company’s knowledge base. The solution allows those outside the organization to collaborate on common support documents, including reference guides, tutorials, FAQs, files, images, or videos. The solution’s advanced authoring tool is designed for ease of use, giving non-technical users the ability to create content.

“High costs and the very real fear of giving up control keep companies in the dark ages of customer support,” said Fulkerson. “Until today, nobody’s given them the editorial oversight needed to let their most knowledgeable support staff — their customers — maintain and improve their product documentation.”

To address security and safety concerns, MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base includes a fine-grained permissioning system that allows full information hierarchies to be locked down to specific users or groups. The solution allows contributions to be moderated so that any changes made to any pages can be kept in a content queue until published live by a moderator. Additionally, all contributed content is revisioned to provide an audit trail of changes made to documentation. And, keeping to its open source roots, MindTouch has enabled all content inside the solution to easily be exported to common formats, ensuring customers that their data is not locked into a proprietary system for eternity.

The MindTouch Collaborative Knowledge Base also employs advanced polyglot features to localize the user interface and allow for translated pages to be linked together, a powerful capability in an increasingly international world where knowledge management system needs to cross language boundaries.

  • Report says “MindTouch resonates with open source customers”
  • MindTouch cited best current product alternative to industry heavyweights IBM and Microsoft

SAN DIEGO, August 10, 2009 — MindTouch, developer of one of the top open source projects in the world, today announced that it was named a strong performer against its key competitors in the August 2009 “Forrester Wave™: Collaboration Platforms, Q3 2009” report published by leading independent analyst firm Forrester Research, Inc. MindTouch was the only open source option in Forrester’s 66-criteria evaluation of collaboration platform vendors.

According to the report, “MindTouch has built a strong offering and staked out the favored position among organizations with open source leanings.” Specifically, MindTouch “represents a strong offering in the area of traditional collaboration and has addressed the Social Computing opportunity quite well. MindTouch benefits from being an open source offering with a large and active community behind the product. Introduction of new functionality is aggressive, as is expected with an open source offering. The open source community support moves MindTouch into a very strong position as a partner and provides customers with a wide array of add-on and integration offerings.”

In addition, the report called out the following findings:

  • MindTouch is the only open source option in the 2009 Forrester Wave
  • MindTouch landed as a Strong Performer, right behind Microsoft, IBM and Novell
  • MindTouch has built a strong offering and staked out the favored position among organizations with open source leanings.

“In the last year, MindTouch has revolutionized the way companies capture, edit and collaborate on information,” said Aaron Fulkerson, Chief Executive Officer, MindTouch. “The 2009 Forrester WAVE recognition is a prestigious competitive recognition in the software industry and reflects the success we are having providing customers with an alternative to proprietary enterprise collaboration solutions. I’ve been through dozens of analyst assessments and I can report that I’ve never had one that was so thorough in evaluating the technology. The process was comprehensive and went as deep technically as any research I’ve seen.”

  • MindTouch Collaborative Intranet is First of Three Collaborative Network Solutions to Roll-out in 2009
  • Family of Collaborative Network Solutions to Turn Enterprise Portals “Inside-Out”

SAN DIEGO, June 23, 2009 — MindTouch, developer of one of the top open source projects in the world, today announced the immediate availability of the first of three turnkey collaborative network solutions the company intends to launch over the next six months. MindTouch Collaborative Intranet, built on the company’s popular MindTouch 2009 open source collaboration platform, addresses the failure of current corporate portals and enterprise social networks to deliver value to business users, while simultaneously transforming a company’s IT staff into an army of application developers.

By deploying MindTouch Collaborative Intranet, companies can federate content from across the data and application silos their employees use each day — ERP, CRM, file servers, email, databases, web-services infrastructures, social networks — to create a vibrant real time information fabric. MindTouch Collaborative Intranet connects the legacy business systems companies use every day and pulls data from each individual silo into a single, common and unified Web interface. Unlike more traditional approaches to data federation — such as static portals or plug-in-dependent wikis — MindTouch Collaborative Intranet presents the data in a format that is interactive, collaborative and scalable. And with operational excellence near the top of every manager’s performance objectives this year, MindTouch Collaborative Intranet becomes a highly-valuable tool to drive greater visibility and transparency across an organization’s business.

“Collaborative networks not only reshape how software is developed, they completely reinvent the connection between existing enterprise applications and today’s consumer-based social networks,” said Aaron Fulkerson, CEO, MindTouch. “What we’ve done with MindTouch Collaborative Intranet is take what we’ve learned through hundreds of enterprise engagements over the last two years and combined it with independent research conducted among the Fortune 1000, to define and develop what may rightly be seen as the intranet of the future.”

[For more, see Fulkerson’s groundbreaking post on collaborative networks here.]

Throughout the past decade, companies spent millions of dollars and man-hours building in-house intranets on portal frameworks designed to increase the flow of information and collaboration among employees. However, because these intranets were designed by engineers and HR departments — not by the employees who would use them — many today sit static, serving as vast dumping grounds for departmental files rather than the collaborative platforms they were intended to be.

The explosion of social networks further exacerbated the stale reality of many intranets as employees quickly began to adopt social networks, social bookmarking, forums, blogs, video and microblogging as their primary means of collaboration. Traditional enterprise software vendors responded by wrapping individual, consumer-based social tools in an enterprise message and tacking them on as features to their proprietary, closed-source software suites.

MindTouch Collaborative Intranets address the limitations of today’s intranet solutions with a more modern approach to collaboration. Built with a Web-Oriented Architecture (WOA), MindTouch Collaborative Intranets take the traditional service-oriented architecture approach to application development — prevalent for roughly a decade in the enterprise — and applies Web-based fundamentals to developing more robust, collaborative intranets. By building on WOA, MindTouch fixes the limitations currently hamstringing enterprise collaboration by injecting life back into enterprise IT.

“With MindTouch we had the perfect framework to federate our varied disparate enterprise tools and systems to build a collaborative intranet that spans our entire corporation. The WOA foundation provided us with unprecedented agility to develop and deploy applications rapidly giving us much higher ROI from our IT investments” said Troy Saxton-Getty, VP of Engineering at Bill Me Later. “This kind of collaborative Intranet is so valuable I expect every corporation and organization will soon be using MindTouch. MindTouch has solved the problem of data access, sharing and edting that I have struggled to overcome for the last twenty years.”
