If your company is like most companies, you’re making huge mistakes with the management of your corporate objectives. You’re suffering from a lack of project visibility and execution.
You’ll need both if you want to successfully align relevant projects and tasks with things your company should be doing. Today, useless spreadsheets, Outlook tasks, or if your lucky Microsoft Project track your personal projects and initiatives. It seems to working but it isn’t. It’s not working because you’re the only one that pays attention.
Some of our luckier readers have engaged in a Balanced Scorecard initiative that helped align all corporate objectives to activities and projects. If the activity or project didn’t support the corporate objective it is thrown out. Yet here too companies fail to execute due to the laborious task of managing all of the initiatives, projects and tasks.
Monitoring success of your Balanced Scorecard or similar strategic management system doesn’t need to be difficult. We can help.
Just curious, what do you think would happen if you were able to see at a glance how well your entire company’s initiatives were progressing on your Intranet?
More on the Balanced Scorecard
The Balanced Scorecard is a strategic planning and management system that is used extensively in business and industry, government, and nonprofit organizations worldwide to align business activities to the vision and strategy of the organization.
Ok, that’s a fancy explanation for a bunch of scorecards that monitor how well you are doing on a set of activities related to your corporate strategy. Yes, I’ve oversimplified.
How MindTouch can Help
Implementing Balanced Scorecards typically includes four processes:
- Translating the corporate objectives into operational goals;
- Communicating the objectives and linking it to individual performance via scorecards;
- Business planning
- Monitoring and learning, then adjusting the strategy accordingly.
MindTouch is not focused on strategy creation here. You’ll need to contact the Balanced Scorecard Institute to learn more about that. Be sure to tell them we sent you.
Our Collaborative Intranet solution can supplement process 2 and 4 well while providing help for 3. We supplement them by providing a technology framework to make the communication,
connection and understanding of a Balanced Scorecard initiative a reality. Because it’s on the intranet, teams can improve through interactive dialogue around each initiative.
Moreover, the Collaborative Intranet provides visibility of initiatives where several departments may be tackling the same issue, but are unaware of each other’s efforts. I use to cringe when I discovered another department was tackling a similar issue. We just didn’t know.
The transparency of activities and performance via dashboards resulting from the project scorecard enables managers to reduce the number of initiatives and cost burden. It also gives high level project overviews. So on any given morning the manager can see how their team is performing towards its strategic goals.
For Executives the Collaborative Intranet provides a quick view of their division’s objectives and the health of each. If there’s a problem, it’s now addressed in hours – not weeks when it’s too late. It also breaks down department silos, so viewing the progress of initiatives across the enterprise is easy.
We provide the framework so you’ll have a clear picture of reality.
