Training. It’s a word that is universally dreaded in the corporate world. Just the mention of training conjures up images of gray training rooms in the back of the corporate office. Bagels, coffee, and boredom, available all day long.
It doesn’t have to be like this.
Today’s training is radically different, and is designed to meet the diverse needs of an on-demand, connected workforce. Whereas in the past we delivered training in classrooms, now many training sessions are delivered online, either live via web conferencing tools, or in a self-paced format with videos and course materials available to students to use at their leisure. With students more in control of their learning environment, we’re seeing them more engaged with the lessons that they are learning.
I’ve been working on the MindTouch training program for a while now, and I’ve delivered many of our training classes personally. What I have seen is that those deployments that start with training their users see a more engaged user base, fewer issues, and more seamless transition than those that did not include training in their deployment plans. The two hours that your users spend learning how to best use their new systems will be paid back in efficiency gains in no time at all.
I’ve just finished a revamp of our training program here at MindTouch, with a new structure and a variety of new classes. In addition to the introductory classes, we now have many advanced classes now on topics like skinning and DekiScript, along with several classes on building dashboards using the MindTouch charting packages. Look for an update soon with full details.
I am still teaching our free introductory training class every other week, on Tuesdays at 10 AM pacific time. As before, this class is a 1 hour sampler of our User, Admin, and Developer training classes. I encourage everyone to attend, learn some valuable tips about MindTouch and experience our web based training format firsthand. Click here to register.
